Flour Tortillas

Source: Lo Mejor de la Cocina Hispanico Espanola, Dale City VA.  This is a  cookbook project of the Godwin Middle School Spanish class students , with the help of their teacher, Mrs. Gilta Engman. Our daughter was her student.

2 cps flour
1/4 cp shortening
1/4 t baking powder
1/8 t salt
1 cp warm water

1.  Mix all ingredients in large bowl. Knead till dough is elastic.
2.  Tear into small sections and roll into flat balls.
3.  Roll each ball into plate size and cook over an open grill. If grilling is not feasible, cook on top of stove in large cast iron pan.
