In the past, bear visits stopped around early May. In 2007, they continued visiting throughout the summer. A clear cut in the Mink Hills this year may be driving him to visit backyards all summer. We no longer store seed on porch and bring in the feeders in the early evening.
2007
On our early morning walk (October, 2007), we catch fresh prints of our resident bear strolling down the driveway.
The month before, scat appears in road, in the same spot. About the same
time, our sunflower heads were mysteriously lopped off at the top. He is prime
suspect.
July, 2007, visits.
On one visit, he makes a valiant effort to retrieve a non-existent bird feeder.
